Walking into the Yardbird Suite for the first time, I found myself pleasantly surprised. Once inside the volunteer run venue, you are transported back to the old intimate Bourbon Street style room - minus the smoke! Barbra Lica took the stage and kept the room enthralled. The audience listened intently until she finished her songs to rounds of applause.

Sue Foley treated us to an intimate, yet enthralling, blues set Thursday night. For someone who previously did not have the pleasure of hearing this multiple award winner (Maple Blues , Juno and International Blues Music Awards), I was blown away by her performance.

The Sweet

The sold out crowd was on it’s feet as The Sweet took the stage Saturday night at the Century Casino, opening the show with the high powered tune “Action”. Steve Priest took the seat of honour and rocked out on his Bass guitar and harmonizing perfectly with lead vocalist Paulie Z.

I was lucky enough to be able to sit down with 54-40 bassist Brad Merritt, who looked rather calm after enduring rather treacherous travel through 15 cm of fresh snow to get to the River Cree Resort & Casino for their concert on Saturday night.

Of course, these veteran Canadian rockers have had many challenging experiences in their 30+ years of touring.

Rockzilla, a local 3-piece rock band, warmed up the audience on Saturday night. They had the crowd on the dance floor with covers of "Summer of '69" and "Sweet Caroline". These guys were loud and proud with a high energy "let’s party" kind of show......

It has been 40 years since Doug and the Slugs started playing together in Vancouver. The band is best known for hits that earned Juno nominations as well as videos that were MTV favourites in the early 80s......

Twenty-five years ago, Captain Tractor started playing the bar scene in Edmonton, quickly gathering a cult following. I remember seeing a Captain Tractor sticker on the wall outside the old Sidetrack Cafe, and it was my first introduction to a highly entertaining band.
